What is a mammogram?
A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts used to screen for signs of breast cancer. Combined with self-examination and a doctor's examination, the mammogram has greatly improved the detection of breast cancer. Learn more.
Why should you have a mammogram?
Early detection of breast cancer with screening mammography means treatment can be started earlier in the course of the disease, possibly before it has spread. Learn more.
Who should have a mammogram?
A woman's risk of developing breast cancer increases as she gets older. Her risk increases if her mother, sister, and/or daughter have been diagnosed with the disease. Learn more.
When should you have a mammogram?
Women age 40 and older should have mammograms every year. Women at higher risk of breast cancer should talk with their doctors about having mammograms earlier and how often to have them. Learn more.
